Acne Scar Treatment

While acne could be a natural event in our lives it is the acne scars which cause lifelong embarrassment for many. Yet there are plenty of ways to treat them. You simply have to know the types of scars to get the best type of treatment for your acne. Acne scars can range from being mild to extremely severe. When acne is mild all you can have are a few blotches but when it turns severe, acne can appear in a variety of areas like the face, neck shoulders, chest, and back. In such cases deep cysts and pustules develop which if not attended at the right time and treated, scarring is an obvious outcome. Most of such scarring can last a lifetime. So if you are an unfortunate victim of acne, treat it quickly so that there is no scar formation, and treat the scars in case they develop. But how to go about treating acne scars?

One of the first steps to avoid acne scars is never to squeeze or pinch the blotches as they appear. This not only helps in spreading the infection but also aids in scar development. So instead of mishandling your acne, take the help of the various acne treatment options which are readily available to treat your acne as well as prevent scar formation. To begin with there are lot of skin-friendly herbs like chamomile, lavender, dandelion root, bergamot, poke root, Echinacea, burdock root, and witch hazel which can help you improve the health of your skin as well as treat acne later. Avoiding exposure to sun can also prevent acne scars from forming. There is a popular belief that sun light actually dries up the acne marks but an unprotected exposure can damage the skin and worsen the acne condition.

Developed for the benefit of the medical professionals for the diagnosis of acne type and its subsequent treatment options, acne scars can be classified into three categories. These are ice pick, boxcar, or rolling. As the name implies the ice pick acne scars are thin and sharp scars. It looks as if the skin has been sliced by an ice pick. Deep and narrow in appearance these scars can penetrate deep into the subcutaneous layer of the skin.

Boxcar acne scars on the other hand do not have a tapered look. These are round pits with sharp vertical sides. Treatment methods like dermabrasion or laser resurfacing of the skin work very well with this type of acne scars. Scars which have a rolling or a heaving surface are logically called the rolling acne scars. These usually result from the folding of the skin to the subcutaneous layers below the outer layer. Treatment can mean breaking up the fibrous bands which are the cause behind the skin to roll or fold. Of course one of the most popular acne scar treatments is the subcutaneous incision.

There are a number of effective acne scar treatment options available today for treating acne scars, and many more are in the developmental stage. The best option however is to prevent them from developing – for which you have to be careful not to squeeze or pinch your acne and treat the skin very gently.
